Environment Day Observation on Rajagiri College, Kalamassery Campus
Rajagiri College of Social Sciences conducted environment
day celebration at Kalamassery campus. Rev.Fr.Antony Kariyil (Director,
Rajagiri Collge of Social Sciences tribute to Bl. Chavara and Inaugurated the
observation of Environment day by planting the sapling of a "Prior
Mango" tree in remembrance of the mango tree planted by then Prior, Bl. Chavara
in the Koonammavu Monastry which was
later came to be known as "Prior Mango tree" He motivated the
students and staff about the need to protect the environment and the need to
plant trees to safe guard the flora and fauna. Dr.Mary Venus Joseph, Dean and Administrator,
and Dr. M D Baby ,President, Rajagiri Staff Welfare Association, Mrs.Lissy
Jacob (Rajagiri Outreach) Mr.Anil John (NSS Programme Officer) and student
representatives spoke on the occasion. The students and staff took an oath to
protect the environment .social work students organized a "door to door
campaign" in the neighbor hood and the anganwadis to spread message of
environment protection by planting the tree saplings with the help of the community.
The environment day observation was organized as a joint venture of Department
of Social work, Rajagiri Staff Welafare Association, Rajagiri Outreach N S S
Unit and Encon Club.
